Website Information
Submission & Ranking Process
| How Sites Are Ranked |
Ask Jeeves maintains a large knowledge base compiled by three sources. In order, they are: Human Editors, Popularity Technology (Powered by Direct Hit) and E-commerce Partners. Each of these aspects is discussed below. |
| Human Editors |
Human editors compile a large knowledge base of questions and answers from websites which they find on the Internet. These editors have a strict guideline to adhere to when selecting which sites to add to their knowledge base. According to Ask Jeeves, these are the top criteria to add a site:
Sites must load quickly, be easy to read and navigate
Sites must be updated regularly
Sites should address a user's question and be thorough
Credibility of the answer should be clear and justified
Sites should offer the answer with no fee or registration requirements
|
| Popularity Technology |
Ask Jeeves' subsidiary, Direct Hit, powers the popularity aspect of the ranking technology. Quite easily said, the most popular website (determined by how many people link to a site and the number of people who visit it each month) is given a higher ranking than newer sites. The more people that visit your site and link to your site, the better likelihood Ask Jeeves will provide a better ranking to your site. |
| Ecommerce Partners |
Ask Jeeves often partners with ecommerce and content providers to supplement their knowledge base. Partners are usually large content providers which are intended to strengthen the answers already included in Ask Jeeves' database.
|
| Getting Listed |
To get a human editor to review your site for inclusion, you must send an email to url@askjeeves.com requesting an evaluation of your site. Be sure to include your website URL and a brief description of your website. Keep in mind the above points required to get listed in Ask Jeeves as the editors are quite selective about the quality of sites accepted. |
| Secondary Listings |
After Ask Jeeves knowledge base results are shown, Ask Jeeves shows the top results from other search engines which are partners to Direct Hit. If your site is listed in a Direct Hit partner site, chances are quite good you'll be listed as a secondary search result in Ask Jeeves as well. |
| Submission Time |
Getting listed in Ask Jeeves can take up to 8 weeks depending on the waiting list of sites to be reviewed by editors. Getting listed in a secondary listing is usually instantaneous once your site becomes ranked in a partner's search database (Wait time varies per partner). Since GoTo is the fastest submission partner, we suggest you use GoTo to submit your site through. |
